South Korea is always associated with the existence of quirky and multitalented k-pop boy bands or girl bands that are becoming a favorite of young people nowadays. These groups have their own charm. One of them is a boy group called WINNER. WINNER is a boy group who have been under the YG Entertainment since 2013. This boy group was formed from a tv program called ‘Mnet WIN: Who Is Next’. Their first debut was on August 17 2014 by releasing a studio album titled ‘2014 S/S’. There are two single hits from this album entitled ‘Empty’ and ‘Color Ring’. ‘Empty’ with mid-tempo hip-hop nuance was uploaded on their YouTube account and quickly gained 1 million views in less than 24 hours.
The same thing happened to ‘Color Ring’ which took the flow of alternative rock. The success of the album was really seen when WINNER managed to occupy the first position on iTunes in several countries in Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. In fact, YG Entertainment shares experienced a rise on Winner’s debut day. With their success, WINNER was nicknamed as the “Monster rookies” when they first debuted because it rarely happens to new groups. Moreover, in this project, all WINNER members helped the production process, choreography, to the design.
They also expanded their wings of success by doing their album promo with the title ‘S/S: Japan Collection in Japan’. The tour was carried out. Their first solo concert was held in Tokyo on September 11th. Then, exactly a month later on October 11th, they wrapped up the tour which was attended by a total of 25,000 fans. WINNER’s name was also listed in Fuse magazine as “13 Top Breakout Artist of 2014”. Their names are side by side with other famous singers such as Sam Smith and Jhene Aiko.
At the beginning of its formation
this boy group had 5 members consisting of Jinwoo, Mino, Seunghoon, Seungyoon, and Taehyun. But unfortunately, on October 12, YG Entertainment announced that Taehyun had to rest because of his emerging health problems http://22.214.171.124. Even though at that time, WINNER was doing an ‘Exit Movement Tour’. But, one month later, Taehyun decided to leave WINNER, setting aside 4 other members. It was a difficult situation for them, but they decided to continue WINNER with 4 members only.
In 2017, WINNER made a comeback by releasing an album which has two songs, ‘Really Really’ and ‘Fool’. As usual, their songs are selling well in the market. ‘Really Really’ quickly took 3rd place on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales. Likewise, with ‘Fools’ who managed to occupy the fourth place and won the title as the Best of the Week song on Apple Music.
Then in August, they made a comeback again by releasing a single album entitled ‘Our Twenty For’ which has 2 single hits titled ‘Love Me Love Me’ and ‘Island’. The single ‘Love Me Love Me’ was selected as one of the 20 best k-pop songs in 2017. Then in November, they had the opportunity to shoot a show, ‘Youth Over Flower’, which was filmed in Western Australia.
